For the Orsatelli family, the tradition of sheep farming takes on its full meaning given that this tradition has been passed on for many generations. It was through their parents that both Joseph Orsatelli and before him, his brother Pierre-Jean, learnt about sheep farming. “Learning” is not really the right term. It was rather a vase of total immersion, from a very early age, into pastoral traditions, rather than an apprenticeship in its purest forms. With the Orsatellis, knowledge is imitation - almost atavistic!

“Although this did not stop me from doing other things, I always knew I would be a shepherd”, reveals Jo Orsatelli quietly. “My life is here, with my animals, with these extraordinary Cortenese Mountains as a backdrop,” he continues.

With his parents, and then his brother, he has shared this pursuit of product excellence, a respect for this natural but fragile land, and the passion for his work. And besides, with the Orsatellis, you never stop! Having retired at a young age, his brother, Pierre-Jean, still helps his younger brother with the cheese production. A family history that will never change!
