With a surname meaning “hard-working” in French, Yann-Antoine is aptly named. By the sweat of his brow, this 24-year-old farmer is working on clearing the land of his future six-hectare operation, like a true conqueror.
“As a result, I have realised a childhood dream by working outdoors and surrounded by nature, which is both wild and tamed” said Yann-Antoine, “I don’t like the term ‘market gardening’. I prefer saying that I have a large garden which produces things that I can sell!” he says jokingly.
Ortu di u Fiuminale now offers many varieties, which are grown from seed to fruit, including tomatoes, potatoes, aubergines and pepper.
In 2017, his operation expanded, with 200 hens and quails being raised. In addition to selling them directly, Yann-Antoine sells his vegetables at Monticello market three days a week from March to September.
Being a perfectionist, Yann-Antoine strives to master the techniques for warding off diseases as well as possible and aspires to move towards biodynamic agriculture.
As a result, Ortu di u Fiuminale has a bright future ahead!
