José Versini is a man of passion and conviction. He has devoted himself to farming for the past thirty-six years. In 1978, having completed his studies, José followed in the family footsteps and chose to settle in his home village of Cristinacce.

“I was always going to be a stock farmer,” he says. “I knew that establishing myself would be difficult, especially at the start! But there was no way I was going to give up and turn to something I didn’t believe in.” The young man initially raised goats and pig. Unfortunately, the small herd of goats proved to be impossible to control! José decided to part ways with them and, in 1984, decided to focus mainly on pigs – as well as some cattle – to produce pork meat. “The quality of our pork meat is proof of our determination to control the whole production chain, and to make high-quality produce using genuine know-how.”

José is not alone in this venture – he’s helped by Nicole, his long-time partner. Nicole used to teach in Germany but decided to leave the classroom and train as a beekeeper in Corté.

In 1984, after having qualified, she set up her beehives and began producing full-bodied honey, which has since been awarded the AOP (protected designation of origin) label. She also makes delicious jams. “We each have our key seasons!” says an enthusiastic José. And indeed – the farm is busy all year round.
