In the agricultural world, the transfer of farm holdings is often a difficult painful process as it is can be hard to find someone willing to take over the farm.
This isn’t a problem Lucien Filippi, a cattle breeder from Canale di Verde, has had to face. His son Jacques nobly carried on the family undertaking at his father’s side and displays the same passion for his animals and his trade.
They communicate with each other in a calm and effective manner and this is instinctive and based on a perfect understanding of their environment. They both know what they have to do and trust each other.
However, this mutual trust didn’t just come about overnight. On the contrary, it’s the result of a close partnership stretching back 30 years between an industrious father who, every year, gained a few extra acres of land from the scrub for his growing herd, and an attentive son ever-mindful of doing a good job alongside his father.
The results of this partnership have lived up to their expectations as Lucien and Jacques now own a herd of certified organic Corsican cattle. The quality of the meat produced is widely recognised beyond the region itself. It is this same enthusiasm and teamwork which has allowed their meat to build a growing reputation at the markets in Bastia (the Citadel and the Market Square) and Bravone, as well as at the island’s country fairs and festive events thanks to their delicious veal skewers.
