The Montemagni Domaine is an institution located in the Nebbiu. Founded in 1850, it’s also the largest “Patrimoniu” vineyard, classified as such since 1st August 2014.
Louis Montemagni, the village’s patriarch and the oldest winemaker in the region, took over the small three-hectare family farm in 1954 to shape its vines that now stretch over 110 hectares.
For almost ten years, Louis has been accompanied by a chic, surprising, and charming team: his daughters! The eldest, Andrée, the "Andria" vintage also being named after her paternal grandfather, is in charge of sales; Viviane is in charge of accounting and Nadine works in the winery, assisted by the domaine’s oenologist Aurélie Melleray.
“My father dedicated his life to cultivating this vineyard, in the respect of ancestral traditions. He cherishes this land that is so precious to him. What could be more normal?” Nadine says. “His energy was infectious and communicative, it provided encouragement and motivation to the young,” says Andrée. “We spent our childhood playing in the vineyards. We observed him during every stage of the wine-making process. The moment our father asked us to help him in the winery we didn’t hesitate for a second and responded naturally and in unison: Yep! But do not believe for a second,” Andrée concludes, “that he’s still out among the vines at 5am!”
A beautiful family history that still has long decades ahead!
