Corsican Honey – Mele di Corsica – benefits from a Controlled Designation of Origin (AOC) as well as its European equivalent, the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO). This official seal of quality covers the whole range of varieties with the following denominations: Printemps, Maquis de printemps, Miellats du maquis, Châtaigneraie, Maquis d’été and Maquis d’automne.
Corsican Honey – Mele di Corsica is a product of complex floral composition with typical markers of the island's flora. The honey must be obtained from nectars and/or honeydews gathered by bees of Corsican ecotype Apis mellifera mellifera L. on natural and spontaneous Corsican plant combinations. The hives are smoked using natural fuels (pine needles, eucalyptus leaves, Rosemarie, etc.). Chemical repellents are prohibited.
Harvesting is staggered from April to February depending on varietal range.
