What if the wine from San Micheli was originally an love potion? it is easy to believe it when tracing the history of Phelip, the young deputy prefect who arrived in Corsica to, firstly, fall madly in love with an island, and then with a young Sartenaise girl. “My father came here in the 1940s”, says Jean-Paul Phelip, the current owner of the domaine. After meeting my mother whose family, the Polidoris, owned this old Ortolo vineyard, my father chose to stay in Corsica and resume management of the domaine. “
Jean-Paul, a Parisian lawyer, and his wife Benedicte then decided to give a fresh impetus to the domaine in the middle of the 1970s, when the land was divided with his sister. “My wife and I replanted everything and reinvested in the family home, in which my children and grand-children now happily spend their holidays. Although I love walking around the domaine and doing the wine-making, it is my wife who takes care of the promotion and sales of our wines and our 'cuvées prestiges' in particular," explains Jean-Paul Phelip.
Now, the reputation of Alfieri Polidori’s famous wines has gone far beyond the borders of Ortolo, and one can find their best bottles as far away as China.
