The Alzipratu vineyard was established in 1968, at a time when island viticulture had little hope of survival. Today, it extends over 40 hectares between the Bonifato forest and the Figarella valley, headed by Pierre Acquaviva, a winemaker since 1991 and manager since 2001. In the beginning, Pierre had many doubts and his vocation was far from obvious.
”Currently, Corsican wine is starting to experience real worldwide recognition. The fruit of 40 years’ work! This revival has not been without difficulties and it’s been necessary to adopt an intense evaluative approach with strong positions”, explains the experienced winemaker.
After three years of uncertainty, doubt has now faded for Pierre, who is now more convinced than ever of the need to develop this exceptional terroir. ”I’m realistic: we’ve seen the industry's golden age. Although its development was weak in 1980, it’s now at its peak. Despite all that, progress still needs to be made regarding endemic grape varieties and wine ageing (long-term storage)”, concludes Pierre. Uniqueness as principle; passion as a driving force!
From July 2017, the Alzipratu domain invites to enjoy a "Sensory path" through the visit of the vineyards, of the cellars and tasting of 5 wines with local products.
