Fundamentally, there is a desire, a desire to live in the village and, by the same token, continue to keep it alive. “At the end of the '70s, right in the middle of the Riacquistu*, I was looking for a way to stay in Murzo and live there year-round. ”, explains Michel Artily. At first he chose pig farming and charcuterie production.
“We began modestly, but given the people’s enthusiasm for what we were producing, we soon upped the pace and produced more. It almost became a factory here, and charcuterie occupied all my time and the whole space”, confides Michel. The charcutier began to doubt his willingness to continue in this direction, and thought about a change to agricultural activity. “I always had a few hives and produced honey, but charcuterie is what kept me alive. "
And so Michel changed course, replacing large animals with small, becoming a fully-fledged beekeeper. “Beekeeping allows me to be in tune with the nature around me, and what is more, it allows me to provide the honey necessary for my wife’s cosmetic products, so I’ also participate in her business. "
*Riacquistu: a social and cultural movement during the '70s in Corsica, which aimed to reappropriate Corsican language, culture and local know-how, particularly in rural areas.
