The future of Annet Paoli-Bruins, a young Dutch woman, was shaped in Tunisia on the far side of the Mediterranean, where she met Jean-Christophe Paoli, a devotee of his hometown of Salice, a small village overlooking the valley of Cruzini from a height of 700 metres. Jean-Christophe quickly passed on his love of the land to Annet. She immediately abandoned her ambition of becoming a librarian in favour of a new type of work that was better suited to the area, one which she discovered and mastered with surprising ease.
She fell into beekeeping quite naturally as it enabled her to combine her busy family life, looking after four children, with a blossoming career she sees as invaluable.
“When I’m alone here with my bees, I experience peace of mind and happiness,” she says with a philosophical touch .
Annet loves this work, which she finds both demanding and sublime. It allows her to savour simple pleasures that differ in nature as the seasons change. Annet’s just as committed to this peace of mind as she is to her bees that she looks after with considerable respect and sensitivity, even though she often has to disturb them in order to follow the colonies as they grow.
In her honey farm, Annet will invite you to discover her delicate and flavourful honey, served with her delicious little gingerbread famous in Cruzini and beyond.
