If you walk towards Pevani, a beautiful headland overlooking the Gulf of Sagone, not far from Ajaccio, you will most certainly come across a pretty young shepherdess walking the grassy plateaus with her sheep or cows. Do not be fooled by her slender figure and mischievous smile, you’re dealing with a strong-willed woman who runs her farm and guesthouse with courage and determination. "Despite a small interlude in the Bastia area, I always knew that I’d return to Pevani one day. My uncles were shepherds here for decades and my brother and I grew up in this environment," says Marie-Laure.
"I wanted to follow the path that they had traced and continue to live the pastoral tradition of our village," says the young woman.
Assisted by her nephew, she spends her mornings tending to the sheep and cows before going to the guesthouse, where her mother is busy in the kitchen, what with tourist season having arrived, to help her out. In the Poggi household, family support and love for a job well done are core values with no exceptions! Marie-Laure Poggi is amongst modern breeders who have maintained the values handed down by their ancestors whilst adapting, through the diversification of their business, to the constraints of modern life in rural areas.
