Barthelémy and Jessica Guidoni’s farm is at the foot of Monte Grosso, close to a centuries-old olive grove - whose olives are used for homemade oil. In 2010, the young couple decided together to become shepherds, with sheep-breeding being the first thing they had in mind. "I love animals, and surprisingly, I feel more of a draw to sheep than goats which tend to be preferred!" says Barthelémy. Although he has many strings to his bow (professional cook, woodworker by training), the young man made the decision to work the land, which can be difficult on a daily basis.
"Without passion this profession is impossible because it requires attention and continuous effort. But the animals make it all right! That’s our reward!" The tasks have been shared since 2012: Jessica took over the dairy processing, without abandoning milking, a task she shares with her husband. He is in charge of maintenance tasks on the farm, such as putting in new fences or ploughing the fields. "We have found our balance!" concluded Barthelémy. They make a good pair!
