It is in the heart of the large and beautiful valley of Ortolo that Fabrice and Karine Trebor made the decision to start a new life at the beginning of the 2000s. There was no history of farming in either of their families, instead there was a discovery of a professional world which, over time, would become a way of life in its own right.

“I was born and raised in Ajaccio and my parents worked in insurance,” explains Fabrice. So, it was hardly an environment that would inspire an agricultural vocation.” However, the young man sought to find his way and he started to get ideas. “We had some land in Bilia, near Sartène, and we began to raise a few sheep. We don’t know much about the profession and the working conditions were very rudimentary,” he says. So, he decides to learn more about agriculture and it is on the benches at the INRA [French national body for agronomic research] in Corte that he meets a young student... you’ve guessed it - Karine! Future developments take place in tandem with the acquisition of the land in Ortolo, the construction of their farm and the diversification of their operations.

Today, the young couple divides their time between managing the herd, making brocciu and “Sartinesi” cheese, managing their guesthouse and cultivating saffron. Enough to fill their days and fulfil their expectations. “We are glad to see our children grow up in such a special environment,” Karine says. As the expression goes, “Happiness Is in the Field”.
