As soon as he greets you at the doorstep of his family home, which also serves as his charcuterie workshop and maturing space, Ghjuvan Battista Bourdiec displays the confidence of someone who knows his business well. “I have always wanted to be a livestock farmer. By making my charcuterie here, I have been able to reconcile my professional activity with my desire to continue living in the village”.
However, don’t be fooled into thinking that Ghjuvan Battista hides away in Silvareccio all year. This globetrotter travels all over the world but Casinca remains his base and his home. Today, Ghjuvan Battista continues the traditional know-how of Corsican gastronomy and in turn he never hesitates to pass on his experience and give help to young livestock farmers in the region. “There is no sense of competition between us here. If we work well and respect our customers, there is enough work for everyone”he explains simply.
Whether amongst his pigs, in his workshop or on one of his trips, Ghjuvan Battista Bourdiec is the perfect example of this new generation of farmers who are firmly rooted in their region and traditions yet are still open to others and the world.
