Jean-François Orsini spent his childhood on the family farm.
His grandmother, Marie-Jeanne, owned the traditional butcher’s shop in the village of Calenzana. “Animal farming has been a tradition in our family for generations,” explains Jean-François. “For me, agriculture was a second job at first. Once I realised that it was all I was thinking about, I took the leap to make it my only job!”

At the age of 40, he’s taking the reins from his parents, Annie and Antoine. Driven by the desire to be self-sufficient, Jean-François grows his own fodder for his flocks, and has set up his carving workshop close to his customer base.Today, the two hundred and twenty animals in his flock graze on family lands around olive groves. “My mother spent over 20 years cultivating these trees. I want to ensure this heritage stays with us, and extend our property even further,” he tells us.

That said, Jean-François is not alone in this enterprise: he still has his father at his side, and is helped by his brother Jean-Noël, who’s also been lured by the freedom of farm life. With advice from his mother to keep him on the right path, and support from his wife (a skilled chef), this passionate farmer is all set for a highly promising future!
