Everything changed irrevocably for Danièle and Pascal Piani when they returned to the island in the 70's to take on a completely abandoned property with no electricity or running water.
Their son Clément has managed to restore a wonderful sense of calm to the Cinarca Valley. The hills and terraces are impeccably maintained and their inviting home is nestled amidst 150 acres of family land and pasture. The sheep enclosure is situated above their home and dairy.
The matriarch of the family, Danièle, is based in the dairy. She's just as comfortable talking about the latest film as she is about her beloved 200 goats. Remarkably, each one has been given an individual name: Agatha, Miss Marple, Daikiri, Papagallu... linking mother to daughter or son. A real life family tree! And since nothing here is quite as it is elsewhere, the cheese comes in the form of an ingot, too. Whether round, square or hexagonal, however, it's not so much the shape of the cheese that we appreciate, but its quality, honesty and the way in which it was made.
With Danièle you are guaranteed a warm, lively welcome and she will happily organise onsite purchases. Brocciu and cheeses are available from late January to late July or mid-August depending on the season, and young goat is available before the Christmas break.
