Nathalie Viola is a highly communicative multi-tasker! In 2011, following a very varied professional career, she decided to do a course in agriculture at the Lycée de Borgo. This choice was not as innocent as it might seem: since her teenage years, Nathalie had spent time with her father, François, who maintained a chestnut grove on the outskirts of the village of Rutali.
“In 2006 the land was just scrubland! The property was renovated through the foundation l’Association Syndicale Libre – ASL – ‘U Rumanu’ which also gave permission for it to be farmed”, explains Nathalie. Seven years later and the young farmer has taken over! “I was rewarded with the fruits of many long years of hard work. My father helped me and still helps me today with his invaluable advice, even if we work differently!” she smiles naughtily.
The Casaviola property is today made up of the chestnut grove in Rutali, now enhanced by fig trees and strawberry plants, and a 7 hectare olive grove in San Gavinu di Tenda. This is the epitome of everything that Corsica represents for Nathalie: land, a traditional type of farming, a mixture of ancient and modern practices, island values that need protecting. Nathalie, in this environment, feels totally fulfilled!
