Before walking through his olive groves, Anthony Angel has already been to the valleys around his village of Santa Maria Poggio to lead his sheep. “I practised this profession with passion for twenty years. But a few years ago I decided I wanted to do something else, to slow down a bit. Raising livestock is a very demanding profession, and when my children were born, I wanted to spend more time with my family. Even though it requires hard work, olive growing leaves me with more free time,” he explains.

But don’t make the mistake of thinking that Anthony had it easy. He worked hard to plant his olive trees, prune them and set up his mill. “I knew nothing about the world of olive cultivation, but I worked hard to produce a delicious fine oil. I also press for other olive growers in the region but I am very careful about the quality of their olives to ensure that the quality of my mill’s pressing doesn’t suffer,” he says.

In just a few years, the reputation of his olive oil is such that, having spread beyond the borders of his region, Anthony Angel has no problem selling his stocks. And to conclude “My children will be able to do whatever they want in life, but with this olive grove, I am conscious of bequeathing them a beautiful piece of natural heritage.”
