Thrilled to be plying his trade in the great outdoors, Jean-Louis Gherardi seized the opportunity to create his own farm by acquiring 173 hectare acres of land in the small town of Pietracorbara. "At the time, I felt the need to change direction in my life. So when the opportunity arose to buy land in my native village, I jumped at the chance to get into farming."

Between working the chestnut trees, olive groves and cattle, it's hard to imagine Jean-Louis having any time left for himself! Fortunately, community spirit is a bedrock principle in the hamlet of Lapedina! His parents, brother and friends can always be counted on to lighten the workload, especially when it comes to collecting chestnuts.

Jean-Louis' chestnut flour, carrying his own green label, along with his certified macaroons are the pride of Pietracorbara. The lengthy process of processing fresh chestnuts into fine-grained fragrant flour requires meticulous monitoring to achieve the level of quality found in his products. On average, two tons of flour are ground and packaged annually.

In this lush Cap Corse valley, he also produces meat and olive oil. The quality of his farm-fresh produce is well worth the trip!
