Catherine d’Angeli has always had a creative streak: as a child she made clothes for her dolls, and continued by making her own clothes as a teenager. Her professional career on the Côte d’Azur may have taken her down another path, but the creative aspect was never far away: “I always felt the desire to get into pottery, somewhere in my soul. Starting out and meeting the artisans who had trained at the Vallauris school convinced me that it was time to be myself, and I knew from the start I’d end up working as an artist,” she says, smiling humbly. After a one-year course in 2003 in Arts du Feu (art forms involving the use of heat sources, such as pottery and metalworking), Catherine decided to change her life completely, which meant moving back to her native island. “Santa Reparata di Balagna was where I chose to set up,” – the Codolina workshop opened its doors in 2007 - “the quiet atmosphere and the space are both essential to my creative process”.

The stoneware and raku pieces (a Japanese technique for firing pots) Catherine makes require a great deal of attention and precision. She is constantly on the lookout for new types of enamel and unique new shapes and forms; drawing, testing, and experimenting with rigorous new techniques.

Here there is a passion for all things Zen, a central theme in all Catherine’s work.
