The building started out as an old warehouse being used as a disco hall for local teenagers, before being transformed into a small inn with just a handful of tables in the early 80s. In both cases, it was the pleasure of welcoming guests that motivated the Rocca-Sera family in their business ventures. 30 years later, the old shed has disappeared from the landscape and local memory; the property has undergone extensive renovations, leaving in its place a collection of modern, refined holiday cottages and a restaurant that is well-reputed for the quality of its traditional local fare. To stay at Pignata is to step away from the bright, dazzling side of island life, choosing instead a style of tasteful, studied luxury; genuinely authentic but with a modern feel.
The “home away from home” feeling comes from the care that is taken in the presentation of the property, as well as the family’s visible joy in welcoming guests with warmth, discretion and professionalism.
Today, A Pignata is a reflection of the host of personalities who have built the property up over the years; running things now are Antoine and Jean-Baptiste, who took over the resort from their parents.
Well-being is the watchword of this institution; perhaps this is because up here, no matter where you’re from, everyone gets a chance to feel what it’s like to be Corsican.
