If you walk along a short pathway on the road leading to the sea, you will come across Virginie Giustiniani’s sheep farm. Here, among the kiwi-fruit plantations, a small flock of ewes seems to be enjoying the gentle surroundings, while a young woman works away in the kitchen.
The intoxicating aromas of cheese fritters and roasted lamb will enrapture foodies who decide to come and enter La Bergerie. The cheerful welcome from the establishment’s owner will convince visitors that they have come to the right place to enjoy some good food. ‘My father opened the farmhouse inn and passed on his knowledge and his desire to make people feel welcome here. We serve up simple and large dishes here, using ingredients from the farm.
I think that this what people coming here are looking for.’ It’s hard to disagree with the young woman after trying her fritters or homemade tiramisu. Beyond the high-quality ingredients, more than anything, there is a communal feeling to the place and her desire to ensure that her guests are enjoying themselves shines through. La Bergerie serves up wonderful food, of course, but it is also, more than anything, a perfect example of Corsican ‘à l’anziana’* hospitality.
