Childhood memories die hard and still linger in the dark corners of our mind during adulthood. It is perhaps this nostalgia for the past, as children, in this piece of countryside in the heart of Corté, which prompted Madeleine and Jean-Noël Gambini to one day build their farm and campsite. “Our parents were not farmers but they spent all their free time here, with us, to take care of their own garden and keep a few animals… just for fun!” says Madeleine. The pleasure must have been mutual for both Madeleine and her brother, as they chose to commit to it fully.
Today, their places and roles are perfectly defined: Jean-Noël manages and takes care of the herd, while Madeleine is in charge of the cheese-making and campsite management. There’s no shortage of work for these siblings, who’ve made this place a peaceful haven with good food to which campers and epicureans of the island’s historic capital flock every summer.
