There are some changes in career path that might initially seem surprising, but, upon closer inspection, actually reveal a logical and natural progression. Pascale Cherubin is a prime example. One day, she swapped teaching biology in secondary schools and to future farmers for riding a tractor and growing Helichrysum in the fertile plain of Fiumorbu.

“I was a biology teacher and then a coordinator responsible for the development of organic farming in Corsica. One day, I just decided that I wanted to go over to the other side of the fence,” Pascale says.

Her knowledge of the agricultural sector certainly saved her valuable time when she was setting up, and Pascale Cherubin is now head of a farm of several hectares which she develops methodically and rigorously. Watching her drive her tractor through the yellow and fragrant Helichrysums, one can hardly believe her recent career change. It wasn’t by chance that she chose to grow Helichrysums either. Although it is a demanding crop, growing it allows Pascale to maintain a link to teaching and means that she can (soon) organise visits to the farm and hold discovery workshops with visitors. There is no doubt that the young farmer’s dynamism and skills will help her lead her farm along a path of sustainability and development.
