Thibault Belanger is a local boy. A future other than working the land was unimaginable to him, a land that is so rich and suitable for so many types of farming.
Thibault immediately chose poultry breeding, a rather uncommon sector in the “Extreme South” region.
“When I was a child, my neighbour had a chicken coop. I remember spending entire days watching these animals that would sometimes make such strange noises. This world fascinated me,” says the 25-year-old, a man with a calm and confident stature.
However, his father refused to give in to this growing passion, and now Thibault jokes: “I was never allowed to have my own chicken coop so now my father is sure I’m trying to avenge myself with my 1500 chickens!”
Add to that 1000 guinea fowl and 250 laying hens and you have the complete stock of the Ovu d’Oru farm, established in 2010!
Thibault breeds these gallinaceous birds with the conviction that organic farming is the one and only solution: “I’ve never had any hesitation regarding this,” he says. “For me, one must first and foremost respect the animal, the land and the planet itself. Pastoral farming has always been my priority.” A beautiful vision that Thibault also implements with the restoration of architectural heritage that he has discovered during his days spent on the land leased from the Conservatoire du Littoral. “I'm an archaeologist as well!”
